Network System Engineer - Government Cleared

Job Description is looking to hire highly motivated, best-in-class Network or Systems Engineers for our Infrastructure Operations team that run critical custom built AWS networks. The team will drive the stability and sustainability of these next-generation networks and to discover innovative ways to automate and scale our network as we expand.

The ideal candidate will be expected to provide high quality first/second-tier network and/or systems operations. They will demonstrate an excellent knowledge of networking/systems concepts and theory, and have experience participating in operational network/systems support for a large-scale enterprise environment. They will have a proven track record of success in driving complex issues to resolution autonomously and/or collaboratively. A love for working with new technologies and pushing the envelope on existing technology is required.

- Automate select network/systems administration tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and tools
- Provide critical on-shift/on-site 24x7 network operations support to customers to diagnose of large-scale networking events
- Support and maintain our next generation data-center networks for GovCloud and custom-built networks for significant AWS customers.
- Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.
- Drive and support innovation from the NIC to the core.
- Reduce the end-to-end cost of delivering packets.
- Partner with our broader Network/Infrastructure organization to reduce operational burden.
- Work closely with our Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products.
- Drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.
- Monitor and manage communications during large-scale events utilizing an established Event Management process
- Collaborate with level-3 escalation resolvers
- Identify and troubleshoot recurring platform issues.
- Create and review documentation and process regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
- Troubleshoot networking, routing and interconnectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low level application interaction
This position requires the applicant selected to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility and access. A US Government administered polygraph examination will be required. TS/SCI eligibility is not required to start; however, the applicant selected will be subject to a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information. Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR, or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.

  • 3+ Years experience working in a systems or networks focused technical operational role
  • 3+ Years experience delivering highly detailed technical documentation
  • 3+ Years experience in a technical oncall capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events
  • 3+ Years experience developing operational or deployment mechanisms to support the network or systems
  • A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or at least three years relevant experience in a large-scale network operations environment is preferred.

· In-depth knowledge of and experience with networking or systems technologies
· In depth understanding of TCP/IP
· Substantial background in large scale datacenter network or systems implementations and support.
· Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
· Experience working in virtualized enterprise networking environments
· Excellent analytical skills
· Must be comfortable working in a Linux/Unix environment.
· Software development/programming/scripting skills are highly desired - specifically Perl, or shell (bash, ksh, csh)
· Server hardware knowledge

Physical requirements -

  • The ability to sit in front of computer for entire scheduled 8-hour shift with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work on a 24x7 onsite shift rotation. Shifts are no longer than 8 hours, operating on a team of 8 engineers with 5 different shifts each week to cover all 24 hours
  • Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
  • Effective prioritization and time management.
